"folder in use" error when trying to drag folder

I get 'folder in use' error when I try to drag a folder. Closing all the
stuff I am working on doesn't help. Srangely, it does not happen all the
time.

It's possible the system is doing something like backup, defrag, or disk
cleanup. If it goes away over time, that's probably it. You could look for
that activity in Task Manager.

One thought is to make sure the folder you are dragging is not highlighted
and displaying files while you are trying to drag it. Unexpand the subject
folder, click on some other folder to display its contents in the right
pane. Then try to drag and drop the non-expanded/non-highlighted subject
folder.

Re: "folder in use" error when trying to drag folder

Thanks Mark.
I disconnected the external harddisk which makes a daily backup. This did
NOT help. Then I restarted the whole computer. This helped. Problem still not
solved though you are probably right about its origin.

Try this:
Add "Take Ownership" to right-click menu in Vista
