| What is the consensus? Avoid SP1? I guess I'm hearing that SP1 should not be installed right now. Is that what everyone is more or less saying? My experience so far is bad. Zone Alarm quit working and my NIC card quit working. My Dell is only 5 months old....drivers should NOT be an issue especially since I'm using a brand name Intel Nic . Why would MS put SP1 up on their webpage if they knew it still has major issues? I don't get it....for now...I'm trying to figure out how to uninstall it. Grrrr.. Respectfully, Trev |

| RE: What is the consensus? Avoid SP1? I doubt you will get a consensus. I installed SP1 on two different computers with no problem once I updated the drivers that were considered a problem. I do find it a little faster. The changes to search (prompted by a potential law suit) I don't like but there seem to be enough work-arounds on the WEB. -- Paul "Trevor" wrote: > > I guess I'm hearing that SP1 should not be installed right now. > > Is that what everyone is more or less saying? > > My experience so far is bad. > > Zone Alarm quit working and my NIC card quit working. > My Dell is only 5 months old....drivers should NOT be an issue > especially since I'm using a brand name Intel Nic . > > Why would MS put SP1 up on their webpage if they knew it still has > major issues? > > I don't get it....for now...I'm trying to figure out how to uninstall > it. > > Grrrr.. > > > > Respectfully, > > Trev > |

It pays to ensure that the machine is as 'clean' as possible (ref malware and spyware) There is apparently a fix for the Zonealarm issue, known before SP1 was piped to the public and addressed by the ZoneAlarm authors. Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager. Open up the Network adapter section, right click on the adapter, and select the option to update the driver.. -- Mike Hall - MVP How to construct a good post.. | Re: What is the consensus? Avoid SP1? I have installed on my machine (machine is 3 months old) and it installed fine. Previous to that I installed it on my old machine (4 years old) running Vista Ultimate and it installed fine on that too. Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones, but even when beta testing SP1 my experience of problems was virtually nil. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | RE: What is the consensus? Avoid SP1? I installed on two seperate machines at the same time - office and home office. Never do that again. Neither one will reboot, neither one can be repaired with the VISTA ultimate disk, neither one will work with system restore, which ran for 24 hours before the black screen with crazy characters. Just did a complete reinstall of the OS and ALL programs, files and settings 2 weeks ago. I get to do it all over again. Don't install without a major backup. Also, the free SP1 link for Microsoft help hasn't worked and I've tried it on 4 computers - unknown application error. | RE: What is the consensus? Avoid SP1? I installed SP1 on 2 different machines this week. Neither runs now. Black screen with useless codes - different on each. One at the home office, one at the office. No power outages. Can't repair with VISTA Ultimate disk. Can't roll back with system restore after it ran for 24 hours straight! And I just installed new disks, reinstalled clean OS, apps, files and settings. I get to do it all over again. And the free SP1 link returns the error, "application error, try again in a few minutes." I've been trying on 4 different computers for days. | Re: What is the consensus? Avoid SP1? Hi, I installed on two windows machines yesterday and they are both unstable now, I have had to reinstall on one pc and it looks like on two, driver issues on both machines, all restore points deleted, microsoft have really nackerd windows with this SP1. No problems here, no benefit either. In the future you will have to be there. |

I googled it, and not a lot of info on it yet, but appears to be related to the Nvidia video drivers. I am running the Nvidia 169.25 Vista 64 bit drivers, for my 8800 GTS video card. After SP1, I do not appear to be able to force vsync on , for 3d game ( FSX). Previously , I could. Perhaps this is something that will be fixed in a future driver update... Other than that, I have had no issues at all with SP1, seems to be working very well. -- Don |
