Automatically shut down after install updates

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium.

After updating my windows on 11th March 2008, my computer keeps
automatically shut down by itself each time I tried to log in to windows.
Before it shuts down, I saw this message on my screen:

"Configuring updates: stage 3 of 3. - 0% completed
Do not turn of your computer."

After a few minutes, my computer will automatically shuts down,
and it continuously do the same thing over and over again.
The updates are not completed and will always shows "0% completed".
Please help me!! Need Help here!!

Re: Automatically shut down after install updates

Hi,

Have you tried hitting F8 at boot to access the boot menu and:

a) Logging into Safe mode?

b) Using the last known good configuration?

c) Using the non-gui mode and running system restore?

Re: Automatically shut down after install updates

See if the Methods listed here are of any use:

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista

Re: Automatically shut down after install updates

Tried which? All of them? The SR in non-gui mode should get you backed out
regardless of anything else.

Re: Automatically shut down after install updates

The SAME exact thing is happening to me except its happened right after i finished all the updates for windows after i put the recovery cd in.

Now it says Updateing 1 out of 1 then turns off and restarts then it's fine for the day.

is there a way just to turn off automatic updates like that or delete the update file thing?

Re: Automatically shut down after install updates

Hi,

Alright when I tried to install IE8 this morning, it wouldn't
successfully install, so it had to shut down and restart. However, what
you described happened to me exactly. I called up Dell and here is the
information that I got from them:

Insert your OS re installation CD
Shut down computer
Restart
When you see the manufacturer's logo press F8 multiple times
Then there's an option like boot from USB or CD (highlight and press
enter)
Give it a second
DON"T REINSTALL WINDOWS ---There will be a repair option in the lower
left hand corner. Click on that
This will give you the option to use system restore. Restore a safe
point you know will work (usually a day or two).
After it has completed. Restart.
Everything is back to normal again!
