Clean install of vista and SP1

Can you do a clean install of vista and install SP1 right away or do you have
to get some updates from WU prior to installing SP1?

Thanks

Re: Clean install of vista and SP1

It depends on what drivers you have available during setup. Some systems
will need to update before SP1 will install.
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows
Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates:

Re: Clean install of vista and SP1

Once you perform a clean install of Vista, visit the Windows Update
web site and your system will be scanned for recommended updates.
Obtaining SP1 from Windows Update is the preferred, and safest, method
for a trouble free SP1 installation.

NO, if you have vista with sp1 on the same disk
then that would be preferred and safest

windows update makes many mistakes especially on drivers...

Please stop the irritating posts about how good or bad vista is!

Yep, MS has a horrendously bad reputation for supplying driver updates
via WU.

Add on top of that the added compression layer on the WU version of SP1
compared to the standalone, and you're just asking for problems
installing.

The best method I reckon (without having access to an integrated Vista SP1
install DVD) is:-

Download the standalone SP1 installer
Clean install Vista RTM version
Do not turn on automatic updates when prompted
Install SP1 from the standalone
Then install all your drivers (and software if you wish)
Turn on automatic updates

This way, you don't get a load of stuff downloaded from WU and installed as
soon as you get to the desktop.
The standalone installer includes all the necessary updates to allow correct
installation
