Ubuntu is a great beginners Linux....

But I do prefer Fedora 8 myself.

Well, it's just what I got used to I guess. We run it on a server here,
and that's how I got used to using it. I like the RPM, and I know most
of the ins and outs with the video drivers, etc. And I can make it work
as a desktop for me just fine. I actually still prefer windows XP
though, so that's what I mainly use as my desktop OS.

Simple, it works. No quirks, just works. Simple too. Looks closer to XP
than Vista with a touch of Mac. Fast as it gets, network or disk. Never
have had it do strange stuff and have used it for some time. The only issue
I ever had, was with a Broadcom chipset for wireless, I mistakenly thought
because the chipset reference for 54g was based on Linux I could get a Linux
driver. Did not. So I bought an Atheros based one, no problems. Funny how
Broadcom puts out the reference design in Linux but no Linux drivers? (I
will spare the cheap shots). Dual boots with XP nicely too. Includes
firewall, secure shell, X-Windows, working IPSec, servers, compilers, you
name it.

Works great with others too. could mount/map the XP SMB shares and could do
backups quite nicely, also do NFS to UNIX. Even had to use it once or twice
to recover Windows files.

If I could have bought XP Pro x64 with the budget, I would have. Just
didn't want a over priced ?ell machine with little ram or disk for big $$$.
Too bad MS does not sell what people want. Trouble is, Balmer does not just
break chairs, he throws them out breaking Windows.

No such problem in the Linux world, no license hassles. The EULA is better
too. Give it to friends, no breaking licenses. Change add a hard drive, no
key issues. Source code patch needed, no issues. Better documented. Lots
of programs. Runs on old and new hardware, no forced upgrades required.
Less nickel and dime add ons slowing it down, clamav included at no extra
charge and you can actually back it up using the OS an restore it much
easier. No registry hacking required.

Comes with Office, OpenOffice. Works on all Linux, XP, Solaris, Macs and
Vista alike. Even saves PDF.

But, work wants XP... so I must, but can't buy XP Pro x64...dumb. But that
might change, gave the bosses boss SUSE Enterprise and Unbuntu the other day
for his old PC...will see what he thinks now that times are getting tough
and 12-8000 cals of Vista staring him in the face with hardware collateral
damages.

Red Hat still holds the uptime record in our shop, 4 years and 32 days.
Would have gone longer but the UPS batteries melted down and shorted.

Sad. You have this unrelenting thirst to be noticed.
If I put FYI everywhere they will notice me. If I start every word with a
capital they will notice me. If I start new threads with a subject line that
intrigues people they will notice me.

You remind me of those lame radio DJs in the 80s who would remind everybody
how "mad" they were.
I'd ask if you were neglected as a child but I doubt it. More likely you
were spoilt due to your social inadequacies.
There are many ahead of you as troll of the year but, don't worry, I'm sure
you will scoop boring c*nt of the year award hands down.

no one is really paying attention to this idiot... its only an annoyance you
skip and go to another post...

its losing its time in here...
I say its a troll because it has never posted
anything vista related.
I call it and "it" because it does not qualify as female...

there is something very sick about this loser.

Actually he was dropped as a child. Although his parents thought it was
rather humorous the way he bounced along the hardwood floor like a
beachball, they quickly learned that it suffered very serious brain damage.
His postings here are really a call for help and attention. Personally, I'd
like to just think of how funny he looked bouncing across the floor.

As pathetic as Kevpan815 is and as much as he's striving for attention, he
doesn't come close to overtaking Francis as THE Usenet Village Idiot.
Kevpan815 is best ignored.

Cheers.

Of course Francis could never believe an uptime measured in years when he's
running a toy operating system called Vista that has an uptime measured in
hours.

Cheers.
