| Re: A "genuine" Vista losses registration and becomes "not genuine" You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following: 1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 4 2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard. 3. Select your Country. 4. Follow the instructions for phone activation (no charge). 5. Once completed, restart your computer. -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience - Windows Vista Enthusiast --------------------------------------------------------------- "KWHunter" <guest@unknown-email.com> wrote in message news:3d3a0d93d13f6b86d226a06e55268896@nntp-gateway.com... I am experiencing the exact same problem as described by the OP. The only difference is that I am running Vista Business with SP1 32bit. I have made no hardware changes whatsoever since my successful activation. Also the OS seems to be running great and I really like using it. The only problem is that it lost its activation and I cannot reactivate. I will attempt to go through the process outlined above and see what I can find out. In the meantime, has anyone found any new information regarding this issue and/or a possible resolution? Thanks! -- KWHunter |

| Re: A "genuine" Vista losses registration and becomes "not genuine" i am not sure how to get around this issue at the moment, because i have never ran into it in the final release of vista. but i have ran into this issue once in the issue while i was beta testing vista. if you want, since I have some contacts at microsoft I can talk to them for you and see if I can find A fix for this particular activation issue. I am only offering because I have seen this particular issue pop up one too many times in the microsoft news groups and i do not think microsoft does anything about it. First of all how are you upgrading your PC from XP to Vista? are you just using a normal Vista upgrade CD? and what version of Vista is it? and is it an OEM CD? oddly some OEM copies of windows have trouble with activating. I had trouble with activating this one particular OEM copy of Windows XP SP1b. for some odd reason if I did not have a LAN connection for the PC durring installation and activate it then, i would have trouble activating it later. in fact after windows finished installing, i would get an error where i could not activate windows and that the activation key or regitration key was invalide. then after three failed attemts or so at trying to activate windows, my OEM copy of windows became non-genuine. I had this same issue once while beta testing vista, so instead of performing an upgrade, I just did a clean install. a good thing about Windows installation CDs, even the upgrade CDs is that you can always perform clean installs from them or Operating System upgrades. It just depends on your system configuration and stuff. If you want to perform a clean installation from an upgrade CD, the installation will ask you for a copy of an older copy of an installation CD of windows (Like Windows XP or Windows 2000) in order to continue the installation.
