| Trying dual boot xp-vista: disk management console: Can't seepartition? I have vista and trying to make it dual boot with xp. I used disk management console to shrink the vista partition and make a second partition. Then when I tried to install xp (blue installation screen) It only shows the vista c: drive (unknown drive). So it's only letting me to format the vista drive. What I want is to install to the second partition J: I even tried to rename it to B: drive, but still does not show up. Why would that be? thanks. |

While diskpart.exe can shrink the volume, the problem comes in the MBR... Vista or non Vista are the choices premium users have. While I understand Ultimate has the ability to patch this I am not spending more money on MS. I have done this many times starting with Windows 95 but Vista was my nemesis sort of. How I beat it was my PC allows me to select the boot disk on startup. So I unplugged the Vista disks power, leaving a second disk. Installed Linux on the second disk. Then plugged the Vista disk power back in a whala, two OSes, 1 system, press F12 to select. But this is PC manufacturer dependant I suspect. |
