Upgarde from Vista Home to Ultimate via MS Downloads

I have a new HP with Vista Home Premium and need to upgrade to Ultimate for
scientific software compatibility. My computer did not come with any systems
discs. It is possible to purchase and download Vista Ultimate from Microsoft
and upgrade my system using just the downloaded files, or will I run into a
lot of the same problems I have been reading about on this site regarding the
Windows Anytime Upgrade disc (which I don't have or know what it is) or the
upgrade not working? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If some software programs won't work with Home Premium, they still won't work
with Ultimate!
