I won't deny that Vista has had problems (though I haven't had any serious
ones).
However, I think that in a case like yours it may not be fair to trash Vista
without looking at all the other crap that vendors like to load onto
computers, including especially Norton products and any potential conflicts
that software may pose.

And it also amazes me that vendors don't bother to check if their systems
work before they ship them. Sure, it's a little bit more time and money on
the front end for them, but it could save them time on the tech-support end,
as well as any shipping costs they may have to pay if a customer returns a
non-functioning computer. I assume Dell pays the return shipping in a
situation like yours, where the computer doesn't work the way it's supposed
to right out of the box.

Just my 2 Cents! I purchased an Acer PC with Vista installed and have not
had any problems. I knew going in that some of my "stuff" would not work
with Vista, i.e. some games and Joy Sticks and that, I think, is where folks
make a mistake by not knowing what will and what will not work with Vista.
What we need are new Drivers but I guess there is not any $$ in that when
"they" want to sell us new :stuff".
