That's more "fun" than "work", and Linux/Ubuntu is
incompatible with most of the tasks I do and the
applications I need.

For Windows I use True Launch Bar, which keeps
everything in categories with popups from the launch bar
- incredibly efficient. I use Nuonsoft to cycle
interesting desktop photographs. Both work fine for me,
and both have free versions.

Don't quite see the point to all this crap - an OS is an OS, why do you
need to have all this fancy crap? It's hardly achieving anything or
productive.
