Ok. I don't know what I did, but I left my PDA and laptop connected all
night and this morning, when I turned my laptop on, the PDA turned on and all
of a sudden, the partnership was set up between the two. Now, when I try to
open WMDC and I connect, instead of getting "connected", I get "error" and
that is it. No error message, just the word error and I find out that I am
no connected, yet through Windows Sync Center, apparently, I'm connected?

reboot the PC, soft-reset the PDA and plug them in again.
