What I can't stand is just plain windows with square corners. I think you would hard pressed to prove any performance loss with themed windows. Then, I installed Ubuntu on a spare HD, and installed the Compiz Advanced Effect's control panel and was able to set the effects to what I wanted, where I wanted. I was somewhat blown-away by it. It actually worked, and worked _very well_. So well that it wasn't a distraction at all. It took a day or 2 to get used to it, but when all is said and done, it really did add to the experience and there was nothing negative to say about it. Mind you, I only had a _few_ of the effects enabled, and my favorite is the 'flame' transition which I set for when a window was closed. There's no need to go overboard and use everything. |

My OP was in no way, shape, or form stating any OS is better than any other OS....just my opinion of eye-candy. |
