HELP!!!

Hi out there! I've done something to my laptop, and it may be something very
small, or I'm in big trouble. I hope someone can help me! I plugged my
aunt's camera into my laptop to download some photos. I THINK I may have
gone into the Window Media Centre and clicked on "run as administrator" and
now, when I turn on the computer, I get as far as choosing the user, entering
my password, and then the screen goes black and all I can see is the
cursor!!! Has this ever happened to anyone, and can anyone pleeeeeese help!
My life is in that stupid laptop!!! Thanks very much!

Re: HELP!!!

Boot to Safe Mode (Press F8 on restart, during the 'black screen, after your
BIOS screen)
You can probably see the option to boot to "Command prompt"
Run the command in this article.

Re: HELP!!!

Hi Paul, thanks very much! I re-booted in safe mode. So far it's brought up
my "users"...let's see what happens next ....well, I'm still getting a black
screen, it just says "safe mode" in each corner and "Microsoft (R) Windows
(R) (Build 6000)" on the top of the screen!!!!! Any ideas? Yes, this is
Vista.

Re: HELP!!!

Hi Paul,

The Last known good configuration only replaces the following branch in the
Registry.
If it's a driver issue then it may work, but I don't see where she says she
installed anything.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet

It's possible that she improperly unplugged the camera and caused a
corruption. I've also seen for whatever reason leaving one plugged in on a
restart would cause the black screen with a flashing cursor. A have a Dell
system in my shop right now and if anything is in the USB port will stop it
cold, unplug it and it starts right up.
