Need Help, Installation Problem

I have a Vista HP Pavillion a1720n computer. I recently purchased a
Pinnacle Movie Studio Box. I slipped in the first disk to download. Right
away a window popped up that said, "To install the software, you must have
administrator right. Please log in as administrator and start the
installation again" First of all I am the administrator but do not have a
password. A google search offered a solution by saying, "Go to the
setup.exe file on the DVD and right click and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.
My question is: how do I actually go to setup.exe file on the DVD? How can
I go to the file on the DVD when I can't install the Pinnacle DVD in order
to create a file in the first place or are they talking about the DVD drive?
Any help appreciated.

Donald

Re: Need Help, Installation Problem

Boot to Safe Mode (F8 on restart) If no help, temporarily put the
"Administrator" account on the Welcome screen.

Show default Administrator on Welcome screen

Go to Start/all programs/accessories/run, and type:

control userpasswords2

Advanced tab, Advanced button, Users folder, rightclick Administrator,
Properties, uncheck checkbox for "Account is disabled"
Restart Windows.

Re: Need Help, Installation Problem

Hi, Donald.

Windows Explorer should show you the files on the DVD, even if you are not
the Administrator. When you see the Setup.exe file there, right-click and
choose Run as Administrator. If you have not established an Administrator
password (you should!), just click Continue when Vista "needs your
permission".

Or open an Administrator:Command Prompt window. That's what we old-timers
still (incorrectly) call a "DOS box" because most of the commands that we
remember from MS-DOS days still work there. There are several ways to open
that window. One is to press Start and type cmd.exe; then right-click on
cmd.exe at the TOP of the screen (not where you just typed it) and choose
Run as Administrator. You'll need Administrator credentials to get past
this point.

Any command or program launched from this Administrator:Command Prompt
window will "run elevated" since you've already authenticated your status
just to get the window opened.

Then you can just "Run X:\Setup.exe", where X: is the drive letter for your
DVD.
