How increase the startup speed of Vista

Hi,

I use Vista 32 Ultimate but seems that compare to XP the startup is
getting slower. (High derfinition graphik that slow the system?)
Usually I don't know why some applications as firewall (not windows) Pc
probe II of Asus, the windows sidebar, take a lot of time do be loaded.
For example Pc Probe II (3 display windows of cpu temperature, cpu fan
speed,mb temperature) appear 30 sec. after all is loaded.
Sometime some application is lost; in the tray is not visible but in task
manager is
present. It's happen also that windows sidebar is not visible.

Thanks

I read (somewhere) that a USB flash drive can be used to speed boot
times. My Vista boots fast so I havn't tried this.

True if you have less than 2GB.

Re: How increase the startup speed of Vista

Looking at some of your mentioned programs, I am not surprised it is taking
longer to load.

Let's start with PC Probe. PC Probe monitors hardware and in order to do
so, it needs to access the hardware through a driver. It's not just a simple
application. I haven't used PC Probe in years, but it probably needs to be
re-written to be truly Vista compatible since it operates at the driver
level--yes, it works now, but the driver model is very different in Vista
and it is probably running in some sort of compatibility mode.

The Sidebar loads very differently from machine to machine based on the
gadgets installed. Some simple ones merely check with Windows and report
information, and thus load quickly. The clock and calendar, for example.
Some access the Internet and the load times vary depending on several
things--what info is it bringing (weather, news, etc) depends on the remote
site it is getting the information from--and also they need to wait for your
network interfaces to engage.

Also, do you leave your machine on all the time, or turn it off? BY default,
Windows runs a thorough defrag every Wednesday at 1 am. This defrag ensures
that superfetch runs properly--superfetch optimizes your harddrive so that
the most frequently used files load more quickly. Leaving your machine on
before going to bed tuesday night for a couple weeks will improve
performance tangibly (yes, defrag will try to run in the background when
idle, but depending on your habits, idle may not be enough to thoroughly
utilize superfetch
