WMP 11 - Vista 32bit - Won't start

Apologies as I have seen v_old posts, but no viable fix solutions. WMP will
not start for my on Sony VAIO unless I run it up as an Administrator. I also
can't watch anything from with IE as it won't start - not happy.

I don't want to do a system restore - far too much work to then correct all
the other bugs. Does anyone know of a fix other than System Restore?

Many thanks,
A

I know it's obvious, but have you tried simply restarting your computer?

Many many many times - I've been trying to hunt down this problem for a
couple of weeks and have found a lot of older posts - but no solutions -
other than system restore - not an option I want to explore.

All the patching is up to date - all defaults have been reapplied, KB
patches applied etc etc etc but no joy. It's a media centre PC Sony XL-301.
Would be nice to use Media Centre directly -i.e. double click a file but this
won't work - you have to launch as an administrator and then CNTRL+O to open
the file - pain.

Found a related post in relation to 32vs64 bit confusion:
http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/change-or-set-64-bit-wmp11-in-vista-x64-32-bit-as-default/windows-vista which I was going to try tonight - any thoughts?

Cheers,

A

Nah, that's just a little tweak that won't do anything at all on a 32bit
system. =\

That's an interesting point - it came with NI trial which expired - and I
have installed MacAfee instead as I'm not a fan of NIS, but I don't think I
have actually uninstalled NIS? Should I? Sorry for the late reply - work took
over!
