| Word 97 & Excel 97 and Windows Vista Hi - I have just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista installed and have just put on Word and Excel 97 from a Microsoft Office cd that I had. Initially all appeared ok but I am now getting error message on both packages as follows when I open them:- Word - windows registry has reported one or more required files are damaged or missing = run set up. Excel - object libraries (stdole32.tlb) missing = run set up. I have tried uninstalling both packages and cannot and putting the cd in doesn't seem to make any differnce? I am still able to open and use both packages but all the icons on my saved files do not look the same anymore? Thanks |

I once recovered some xls files by using a tool called Advanced Excel Repair. I think it is a powerful tool to repair corrupt or damaged Excel files. Detailed information about Advanced Excel Repair can be found at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/ And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/aer.exe Hope this will help. Before I dumped Vista for other reasons, I had Word 97, Excel 97 and Publisher 97 all patched up with SR-2 running just fine. This sounds like it might be a classic case of needing to do a "Run as Administrator" on Setup.
