Can Not Turn Off UAC (Vista SP1)

All,

Today I went to turn off UAC. I can not!

If I go to "Control Panel > User Accounts > Turn User Account Control
on or off" I notice the the UAC box is already UNchecked but UAC is
indeed turned on.

What gives? Anybody else run into this problem? It appears I have no
way to turn UAC off. Checking and unchecking the box does nothing.

Re: Can Not Turn Off UAC (Vista SP1)

I would suggest rolling back to before SP1 (if you can) as Microsoft has
pulled Vista SP1 due to problems experienced by many users.

Why stop there? Why not suggest he roll back to a stone and chisel? btw
your wrong SP1 has not been pulled, might be pushed back but not pulled.

The prerequisite (a REQUIRED update for SP1) *has* been pulled, thus pulling
SP1 with it.

Perhaps you should hurry and tell CNet that their story is all wrong. Or
better yet, you could read "Microsoft pulls Vista SP1 update" at
http://www.news.com/Microsoft-pulls-....html?tag=item
before posting here.

You could also learn a thing or 2 from
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02...uisite_update/ and
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02...rity_products/.

And, might I suggest a small web page called "Google" before you post
again....it's ay http://www.google.com .

Actually, if you already have the prerequisite then SP1 isn't pulled. Not
everyone had a problem with that update.

Jim,

SP1 has not been "pulled" from the release date of mid march. Microsoft
has pulled KB937287 from the automatic update services.
A solution has been offered. You can view the following article for
information.

Well according to this I needed 3 updates before installing SP1:

The following three updates are required before you install Windows
Vista SP1. However, these updates are also recommended if you do not
intend to install Windows Vista SP1. These updates help improve
reliability and performance when you install future individual updates
from Microsoft.
• Update 935509 contains an update that you must have to correctly
service Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption-capable computers. This
update is applicable to only the following editions of Windows Vista
that include Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption:
• Windows Vista Enterprise
• Windows Vista Ultimate
This update is necessary to install and to uninstall Windows Vista SP1
successfully on these editions.
• Update 938371 updates several internal components that Windows Vista
requires in order to install or to uninstall Service Pack 1 more
reliably. This update must be applied separately before you install
Windows Vista SP1 to make sure that Windows Vista SP1 can be installed
or removed from the computer. This update is necessary to install and to
uninstall Windows Vista SP1 on all editions of Windows Vista. This
update will be available on the Windows Update Web site soon after the
release of update 935509 and before the release of Vista SP1.
• Update 937287 is a prerequisite package that contains updates to the
Windows Vista installation software. The installation software is the
component that handles the installation and removal of software updates,
language packs, optional Windows features, and service packs. This
update is necessary to successfully install and uninstall Windows Vista
SP1 on all editions of Windows Vista. This update will be available on
the Windows Update Web site soon after the release of update 935509 and
before the release of Windows Vista SP1.

I checked windows update and none of those are available to me. So then
I was like "OK, maybe they are installed already"... I checked Update
History and they are not listed as being installed.

YIKES!

Jim

SP1 has not been pulled. The problems with the prerequisite update only
affected a small number of users and it can be fixed as explained in the
following article.

The update is not installed successfully, you receive a message, and the
computer restarts when you try to install an update in Windows Vista:

If you do not have the prerequisites installed, they will be installed as
part of the SP1 installation.
