erased files in Vista

I have had a terrible problem with a new computer with Vista (XPS- M1330)
that has occurred 3x in the past week. Here is what happened: I am working on
a Word document that had been saved previously. I am adding to and revising
it. When I try to save it, it has turned into a temp file (with numbers) that
cannot be saved. It cannot be read by Word. The name of the original Word
file is gone and cannot be found. As a result I cannot access work that was
done over the past days, (except what has been backed up before this work
session). I see the name of old Word file in a queue of recent documents but
it no longer exists, cannot be opened, etc. Advice??

RE: erased files in Vista

You do not say what version of Word you are using.

When you installed Word and/or Office did you get the updates for it.

Re: erased files in Vista

I have not noticed this problem with Word 2003 on Vista Home Premium during
the past 13 months.

Perhaps it has to do with where your documents are located? Internal disk,
external disk, network?
