| CD/DVD no longer works The CD/DVD no longer works if I put a CD in the drive it says "Insert Disc" I have not installed any new software. If I have a CD in when I start the computer I can hear the CD spin up so I know the CD works. I have tried to unistall and reinstall driver with no luck.. |

| Re: CD/DVD no longer works Hi...try this: go to start...then computer...*right* click...properties, hardware, device manager...cd/dvd drive, *right* click *uninstall* the drive, click ok, restart computer. Windows will find drive and correct drivers upon restart. Please post back with results. "D. Meyer" <D. | Re: CD/DVD no longer works You are supposed to go to the registry, find {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and delete the upper and lower filters. See support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/314060 for complete details. In my case, however, I cannot find the upper and lower filters. | Re: CD/DVD no longer works The KB does work for Vista. The KB article I have says it's for XP and Vista Beta 2, but it does work on the final release of Vista. I use it all the time. Vista has a habit of braking communications with the CD/DVD ROM for no reason. Hopefully this will be fixed in SP 1 Along with Vista resetting to default setting for no reason. Here's a copy of my reg entry. Sometimes there is both the upper and Lower filter. The st5eps I go through to fix the CD/DVD issue is to go to Device Manager and Uninstall all CD/DVD ROMs---go to the reg key and delete the upper and lower filters if any---make sure you back up the registry first.
