Converting Vista to English

Hi All,
I live in Russia and went to buy a computer yesterday only to discover
that Vista Home Premium is only available in Russian which is really of no
use to me as do not speak Russian very well.

The only solution that I have found so far is to buy an english version
of Vista and completely re-install. However, drivers, applications etc. that
come with the computer would all be lost. Plus in the event of a problem,
all the recovery disks that come with the computer would really be on no use
except to re-install the the Russian Vista.

Is there another solution that does not include a full install of Vista
in english?

RE: Converting Vista to English

You can always upgrade to Vista Ultimate, and then download the language
pack/or packs that you want. !

Business and ultimate are the 2 versions that you can download language
packs to; but there is no upgrade path from Home Premium to business.

Re: Converting Vista to English

Five versions to try and satisfy a broader range of users is stupidity on
Microsoft's sales model? They give you a choice and you still complain,
doubtful, most likely one buys without doing their homework and reading a
bit before purchase.

Quite some time ago I kicked Bill OFF of my
Desktop and went to Linux. It was a hassle
at first but within a month I had discovered
so much new software (free for the download)
and freed myself from so many Windows
hassles (like those folders you can't
delete EVEN if you are the administrator)
that I wondered how I put up with
Microsoft crap for so long.

Re: Converting Vista to English

Nothing wrong with Linux at all. I have it on a duel boot with WinME. Do I
like everything in Windows? no, but it's all what you learn on and learn to
like. I've worked on thousands of systems over the years and for me Windows
is my choice. I think for the most part Vista has scared the heck out of
people because it is without doubt completely different from what most have
grown used to. Do you remember Windows 3.1 to 95? what a jump that was and
the same complaints what was then is happening all over.

From 95 until Vista pretty much lied dormant, no huge change that everyone
was in the air about. Now that's changed and it is indeed costly, more new
hardware, software and a whole new learning curve. I think the Vista shock
comes from people not expecting the unexpected and are just giving up. I
consider it a challenge and even if it means more money I think it's worth
it. If you are planning to use Windows or have no choice because of your
work then it's best to tough it out now so the next version will be a easer
transition. If one fails to learn now the future versions may be far more
disappointing more so than it is now.

Most systems I've worked on over the past few years I'd be willing to say
80% are home users. At least 70% of those use their system for the Internet,
Gaming, Email, Music and Messenger. Perhaps if these OEM's would market
their system with Linux more so than they do now and really do a better job
explaining what Linux can do it would bring the Linux Operating Systems more
so to the front. Time will tell I guess, anyway, enjoy your Linux.
