| Re: Disk Defragmentation with power lost You lost the power and that caused the disk to "crash" you must do a check disk if you dont see the files you had! Again I will repeat, go to my computer, right click on the drive select properties then do what you see in this screenshot http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/7173/checken7.jpg after the check disk is finished see if you have your files back "Disk Defrag after lost power" <DiskDefragafterlostpower@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:7FFEB72E-5339-42C0-9D79-56A8FA8800CA@microsoft.com... > Thanks, But I checked it out the defrag was only about 1/2 way thru when I > lost power. > > "cheen" wrote: > >> you need to check the disk for errors >> >> go to COMPUTER, right click on the external drive icon> properties> >> tools> >> check disk >> >> >> "Disk Defrag after lost power" <Disk Defrag after lost >> power@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:408A753F-15C3-4993-9344-46A2748D8D45@microsoft.com... >> >I was defraging an external disk when I lost power when the power came >> >back >> > on I tryed to access the data and all I have is empty directories and >> > no >> > data. | Re: Disk Defragmentation with power lost I have run it but I did it again but no errors and the disk defrag doesn't repair it either. It shows that I have 40 gig of space and 32 gig of space used but no files. | Re: Disk Defragmentation with power lost the disk may not be dead.. it probably is FAT32 since externals have this for compatibiliy reasons its far more prone to problems of this nature than NTFS.. To the Original Poster , if you have a friend who has more technical knowlage tell him to use a program to try to scan the disk for errors , there are many programs that try to fix problems like this, or mount it from Linux or something.. this of course only if you have imporant files if all fails and you did not have anything important format the drive in NTFS and see if it works again "Mark L.
