Live Update on Norton 360

OS : Windows Vista Home Basic
System : Compaq Presario Laptop

I ma having trouble with Norton 360 Live Update, I attempted to update my
virus definitions. Suspecting that there may be a problem with my internet
connection. I checked it with the internet explorer and Email and they both
work fine.

I am using a wireless internet connection via a router that is set as an
access point only, I have another laptop and I can update on that one, The
compaq is the only one I can not update on.

Any help would be great.

Ben Ramsay,

Two suggestions: it could be your firewall preventing the LiveUpdate
from connecting or it could be the Norton software itself causing the problem.

Try this, as suggested by the Norton/Symantec website: restart your
system; go to the Norton website and click on support; run the Norton tool to
start LiveUpdate; click on Start, All Programs, Accesories and then Run; in
the Run dialog box type "luall" without the quotation marks; click OK, click
Start and follow the prompts. If this does not succeed open the Run dialog
box and repeat the procedure as many times as necessary to get the updates
installed.

This is a common problem with the Norton 360 software. Norton's other
security software also causes many problems. You are causing yourself many
problems by using Norton software and my suggestion to you is to uninstall
anything Norton and replace it with another product from another vendor.

My assumption is that the Norton software came preinstalled on your
computer, which is the only way Norton can get anyone to use their products.
Norton pays the computer vendors to put Norton products on the computer
during assembly. When I purchase a new computer, and Norton software is
already on the computer, the first thing I do is wipe my harddrive and do a
clean install of the OS, since it is almost impossible to remove all remnants
of the Norton applications.

I have used all the Norton/Symantec products over the past few years.
They are bloated applications that consume your system's resources, attempt
to take over and control your computer and cause more problems than they
solve. I'm sure there are Norton fans and loyalists who disagree with me.
They are certainly entitled to their opinions. But then again, I am entitled
to my opinion as well, based upon years of experience with Norton junk.

Have a nice day.

C.B.
