| Searching for files In XP, it was sooooo easy to search for any file on the PC. Now, in Vista, I'm sure I have a file somewhere (EG a doc file with 'blabberdygook' in the text), how do I find it? The 'search' option didn't help me. Yes, I'm sure I must be pretty stupid to be asking for such a fundamental thing. Roger. |

| Re: Searching for files Actually you can add whichever file extensions you want included in the index. Mine has .pl files included, with a plain text filter. Start - Control Panel - Indexing Options - Advanced - File types Not that it helps in your test, perhaps because the newly created file is not in the index yet. But, anyway, the search function doesn't seem to work as it should... -- http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview "herv" <herv.340x23@no-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:herv.340x23@no-mx.forums.net... > > Bob;591245 Wrote: >> Tools>Folder Options>Search tab> >> >> "Roger Van Loon" <roger.van.loon@xxxxxx> wrote in message >> news:OLPYi43YIHA.1164@xxxxxx> > > >> > > In XP, it was sooooo easy to search for any file on the PC. >> > > Now, in Vista, I'm sure I have a file somewhere (EG a doc file with >> > > 'blabberdygook' in the text), how do I find it? >> > > The 'search' option didn't help me. >> > > Yes, I'm sure I must be pretty stupid to be asking for such a >> > fundamental >> > > thing. >> > > Roger. > > > > Well, it seems that Vista can only search in the content of a narrow > selection of files based on their extension. | Re: Searching for files Thanks, all. I still seem to have trouble working with the Vista search option, and I don't like the index (for one thing: recent files, not yet indexed, are of course not found). I did install Agent Ransack (thanks, Dev) and I think I'll use that from now on. One thing, again: "The Windows Help (WinHlp32.exe) program is no longer included in Vista...." So Agent Ransack's help does not work. Why can't they leave a good thing alone? Roger. I had looked for something like this, but hadn't found it... Roger. |
