Dreamscene crashes Vista

I'm running 32-bit Vista Ultimate as one OS on a multi-boot system.
Today I loaded drivers that enable me to capture High-Def video via
firewire from my cable set top box. I can play the resulting files in
any of several video players installed on my system and they look great
.... but only if I've paused Dreamscene.

If I leave Dreamscene running when I open a video file the computer
freezes and I have to use the reset button to get going again.

Previously I had noticed that any time I'd start a video -- a DVD for
example -- Dreamscene would pause automatically and motion would return
when I closed whatever video player was running -- Windows Media
Player, for example.

But today Dreamscene continues running when a video starts and then, as
I said, the computer freezes. I find it interesting that when I
restart, Dreamscene is disabled and I have a black desktop until I
"personalize." In other words, Dreamscene has shut itself down
completely, but only after it's too late.

I like Dreamscene. It's pretty, it usually runs flawlessly, it's
something different, it makes me happy. Well, usually.

Sure, I can try to remember always to pause Dreamscene before opening a
video file. But that's not much of a solution. Does anybody know how
to ensure Dreamscene shuts itself down when other video is running? Or
is there some other solution to this little problem?

My video card drivers are just one generation behind the current release.

Re: Dreamscene crashes Vista

I have older but similar Video setup.
ATI X800
2 ATI 550 Tuner Cards
Everything works great as long as
I disable Dream Scene and all screen savers.
I just have the monitors power down.

But that's me.
