| Help item incorrectly thinks I'm on a domain I tried to use Windows Help and Suport get help about "password reset disk". But the message says "Because your computer is on a domain, you can't create a password reset disk." But this is not true - its in a workgroup. (OK, I did attempt to add to a domain at some point, but cancelled that and decided not to after all, until our department has a working Vista setup.) Why does the help system think I'm connected to a domain? How can I reset it so that I can get the correct help item? Many thanks, Mark |

You might try system in control panel system and maintenance to check whether your computer is a member of a domain or a workgroup. -- Curt "plumbley" <plumbley@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:AB0B990E-E6E5-410E-A805-6CFD94E555E5@microsoft.com...[color=blue] >I tried to use Windows Help and Suport get help about "password reset >disk". > But the message says "Because your computer is on a domain, you can't > create > a password reset disk." | Re: Help item incorrectly thinks I'm on a domain Hi Curt, In Control Panel\User Accounts\User Accounts left hand side I see a "Tasks" list (Create a password reset disk, etc), but nothing I can see there looks helpful. In Control Panel\System and Maintenance\System, under computer name, domain and workgroup settings, it shows ---- Computer Name: [name] Full Computer Name: [name].[primary DNS suffix] Computer Description: Workgroup: [workgroup] --- (Everything in [brackets] replace the names used in my computer). Also if I select Change Computer Settings to get the System Properties | Computer Name dialog. It confirms its in a workgroup not a domain. All I can guess is that the earlier partial attempt to change from a workgroup to a domain set some sort of flag somewhere (registry?), even though the chance was not successful. But I wouldn't know where to start to look... Mark "Curt" wrote: [color=blue] > Users account in control panel, on the left side. > > It may or may not let you.
