| Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) Yesterday evening there was an automatic update on my Vista Home Premium (Dutch version 6.0 build 6000). Now, I cannot open a recently bought program (Pinnacle) anymore. I think the update may be responsible. When trying to start that program, I keep getting the error message: ""Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142)"" How can I get it back? Thanks in advance, Roger. |

| RE: Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) Hi Roger, This is something which can happen to 3rd party programs after Microsoft updates. The same thing happened after SP2 for Windows XP was released. The only way of solving your problem would be to try to isolate and uninstall the update(s) responsible. If you can do this, and your program now works, then your problem is solved. However, in order to benefit others with the same problem, please reinstall the update(s) and send the program vendor (in your case, Pinnacle) details of the program that failed to work and the MS update(s) that caused the problem, together with any error messages. With this information, they may be able to develop a patch for this program to enable it to work with the update(s). It is only through feedback from users that software companies are able to update their programs. Keep checking the vendor's website for further developments on your query, but in the meantime uninstall the updates so that you can continue to use your program. I enclose both English and Dutch links to Pinnacle's homepage. | Re: Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) Many thanks, Dwarf. I see that on january 9th four updates were installed, wonder which one is responsible, so I will probably have to remove them all (or one by one, to see if it helps). But first, I will contact the vendor of Pinnacle. I suppose other clients will also have this problem and they might have more info. Roger. | Re: Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142) You might try uninstalling pinnacle and then reinstalling it. Right click on the install program and select run as administrator may help too. -- Curt "Roger Van Loon" <roger.van.loon@telenet.be> wrote in message news:%23iZs0LJVIHA.724@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl...[color=blue] > Many thanks, Dwarf. > I see that on january 9th four updates were installed, wonder which one is > responsible, so I will probably have to remove them all (or one by one, to > see if it helps).
