| Re: how to set up usenet newsgroups in windows live mail? Hi, Neerav. Click here: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.vista.general That one click should start Windows Live Mail (if it is the default news client and is not already running); create a News Account for the Microsoft public news server, which is free and does not require a login; subscribe you to THIS newsgroup; download the 300 latest headers; and display the latest message in the Reading Pane. Later, you can click Tools | Options and customize it in many ways to suit yourself. Whoops! You said Usenet newsgroups. That depends on which news server you subscribe to. You will need to learn that from your ISP or other provider. Mine is news.grandecom.net, but that doesn't do you much good. When you find the server name, click Tools | Accounts | Add and follow the instructions to create your account with that server. If you've used Outlook Express or Windows Mail, the process will be very familiar. RC -- R. C. | Re: how to set up usenet newsgroups in windows live mail? Hi, Neerav. I haven't visited those URLs, but there are MANY websites out there that simply "slurp" content from the Microsoft public news servers, as well as from Usenet. When they give proper credit, it can be A Good Thing, spreading knowledge and wisdom far and wide. But, all too often, the site gives the distinct impression that this wisdom originated on their wonderful site. That is NOT A Good Thing! :>( Well, now I clicked on the links in your message and see that both Vistax64.com and forums.techarena.in have done exactly what I said: They are reproducing - verbatim - the posts that you and I made here - without credit or attribution - and are obviously using our posts to generate revenue from the ads shown on their pages. That is dishonest - and despicable - in my opinion. I wonder if those sites will post THIS message verbatim. We have to recognize that anything we post here is public information. So far as I know, we have no copyright. That is why my posts often go into more detail than necessary to answer the specific question: We never know who will be "reading over our shoulders", and many of the readers will not be as expert as you and I. So we have to TRY to make sure that we can be understood, and, often more important, that our post cannot possibly be MISunderstood. Just remember that my newsgroup posts AND YOURS are PUBLIC - and EVERLASTING! So watch your language and don't post anything that you wouldn't want your Mom or your wife or your boss to read. | Re: how to set up usenet newsgroups in windows live mail? Thanks for the link: >> >> http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/118362-how-set-up-usenet-newsgroups-windows-live-mail.html >> Unfortunately it doesn't tell you how to set up a news account, and logging into Microsoft so-called "communities" just adds to the confusion. This hotmail/livemail stuff seems to be in something of a mess; at least I can't find my way around, for example to subscribe to a newsgroup. I use the standard Outlook Express / Windows Mail facilities, but my postings (which have no objectionable content) don't always seem to get through. Regards "R. C.
