| Data transfer using external floppy disk drive I have some floppies I made on an old Dell (o/s: Win98SE). I want to transfer this data to my new Gateway (o/s: Windows Vista Home Premium) using an external floppy drive. Will Windows Vista recognize files that were made using Win98SE? -- bob |

If you have the same (or compatable) application installed on Vista... then the data will be useable. |

| Re: Data transfer using external floppy disk drive Hi, No reason it shouldn't. Now, whether or not it knows what to do with them depends on how they were created and what file format they were saved in. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "zzooman" <zzooman@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A0DC4BBF-BDD8-4DB4-8FF8-2F19458C24DF@microsoft.com... >I have some floppies I made on an old Dell (o/s: Win98SE). As long as the necessary applications are installed under Visa, the files will be usable. However there very well may be an issue with Vista recognizing the diskettes at all. If the diskettes were formatted under Windows 98, Vista will probably not be able to read them, because of the Media Descriptor Byte issue described here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=140060 -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
