| Vista Adoption I've been tasked to find the truth - or at least informed opinion - about the current pace of Vista adoption. I saw the initial posting in "The truth about Vista adoption in 2007" thread and found that article very interesting. Can anyone point me to similar articles? Thanks, Tom |

| Re: Vista Adoption I'll tell the truth IMO about Vista. It is a HUGE change from previous Windows just like WFW was to DOS and 95 to WFW. Then 98 came along and although people complained it wasn't much different. Then 98SE and no much change here either. Millennium came out and most people complained about no Dos. Finally XP arrives and it was a WOW operating System, but not without it's faults as well. Now Vista is here, for many there is no WOW and because it is so different it is natural for people to complain. If you read over these groups I think you will see not all, but many are just people looking for ways to make their software or hardware work, why? because many venders did not get their drivers into MS in time to ship Vista. When something don't work for someone, their first reaction is, I HATE THIS and now Vista is to blame. Watch these groups and MARK my word. Now Vista SP1 is about to ship, people think it is a CURE ALL and for some it might be, but for many it won't or at least they are expecting something from the skies. You will see these same people who are bashing Vista right now will be the same ones once again complaing about SP1. No matter what MS does it won't be enough, it's the nature of the beast. Now I know you ask for a link, but if you Google a little I think you will find lot's of articles to read. I'm just stating my opinion just like the articles you will find does. That's all they are, opinions. BTW, here is a link for you to read over about SP1, it's huge, but worth the read and should explain a lot about Vista and why it is the way it is. | Re: Vista Adoption Microsoft is inflating the numbers with some tricks.. so whatever you see, dont believe it. for example they count vista installations, but they don't count final vista use, in other words many format vista and install xp or dual boot. the numbers that do this are staggaring.. I would not be amazed to find out that only 30% of the machines that came with vista, remain vista only machines... even that number is too much for comfort.. I think vista should be banned as a hazourdous and stupid crap product "Tom K." <thomas.DOT.kerA@Thighmark.com> wrote in message news:eZqk1%23aPIHA.4136@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl...[color=blue] > I've been tasked to find the truth - or at least informed opinion - about > the current pace of Vista adoption. | Re: Vista Adoption Vista User 43, Thanks for your opinion. I agree that MS is looking at licenses sold and not licenses in use. My company does the same thing - we purchase an OS license with the hardware and install what we want, which is currently XP. Any idea where I can find this type of data in print and not just of anecdotal? Tom |

A month or so ago, Microsoft said something about 80 million copies being sold but nothing about actual numbers in use. There was also a recent report from some online research group that said Vista was at about 9% of OS use. I don't remember the link. If that's true and here we are a year later, I don't find that impressive at all. I would have thought about at least 20% by now. Sorry, can't be of more help. -Michael |

| Re: Vista Adoption you dont understand... vista may be activated.. then formated and XP installed on top of that.. so vista activations numbers is not a good way to count whats going on... the best way I have seen it to see website statistics and see how many vista pc hits you have... and what I hear from all around.. that companies cant keep up with the demand of vista ripping off and xp installing! LOL "MICHAEL" <u158627_emr2@dslr.net> wrote in message news:OTDCpbcPIHA.3532@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl...[color=blue] > "Tom K." <thomas.DOT.kerA@Thighmark.com> wrote in message > news:e5KVJVcPIHA.5860@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl...[color=green] >> Vista User 43, >> >> Thanks for your opinion. I'm the one running 15 seats of Vista Ultimate without any problems cause they're all sorted...you're the one who can't get even one little install to run properly. Think (if possible) about it...I know it must confuse a moron like you but those numbers speak volumes about your ineptitude and computer incompetence...and your overall intelligence and mental state. How's that Vista hate campaign coming along? Frank |

| Re: Vista Adoption Hi, My two cents, You have at least two options: (1) search the net then you have to use your wisdom to determine the objectivity and creditability of the information source, (2) contact research firms such as Forrester, Gartner, etc. for such fee-based reports if they have one (may not be available yet as this is not something can be done overnight). Please noted that adoption rate is very difficult to accurately quantify/estimate and if you need such information, you might also want to determine which group(s) of users (e.g. home, small vs. enterprise bus, and/or other criterions) would be your primary interests, and it would save a lot of efforts when you search the net and/or contact research firms. Hope this helps and good luck. | Re: Vista Adoption Thanks, Michael. Obviously you do understand. Many companies, like the one I work for, don't even fire up the OEM installation of Windows to allow it to activate and our OEM would never take steps we don't request and pay for (like pre-activating). Tom |
