low power state

hi. i'm using windows vista ultimate and i can't find an anwer to my problem.
i want to put the computer in a low power state (like sleep or hibernate)
while still running some programs (like winamp). and i set up windows to turn
off the monitor after 20 minutes, i have a screensaver that goes off after 5
minutes, but the monitor does turn off no matter how long i let it with the
screensaver, but it turns it off immediately after i exit the screensaver.
