Hi,

I bought a TV which needs a HDMI 1.3

How do i know that my PC supports 1.3 ?

Is it correct that besides the screen by now also the sound should be
trasferred to the TV?

Your TV SUPPORTS HDMI 1.3, but it would be EXTREMELY odd if it required
it. HDMI 1.3 just adds enhancements for more accurate video and audio.
To be honest, virtually nothing that outputs HD video (HD/Blu-Ray,
cable/satellite boxes) even support it yet.

HDMI does support audio, but your video card will need HDMI output, and
some way to get the audio from the audio card to the video card. Most
only have DVI, which is video only. You can use an adaptor to convert
HDMI to video, but it will not have audio.

In my Vista laptop and in the TV i can plug a HDMI - cable.
The reason of my question is :
-currently i am using and S-video cable (PC / TV) and i can play a DVD from
it (the sound is from the PC)
-i am using now a HDMI cable will it also be possible to play a DVD and will
the sound be from the TV.

I think what you need to do is locate the output on the computer which
is usually a small stereo jack and link that to the TV using a similar
jack or maybe two RCA (Phono) sockets which will be marked red (Right)
and white (Left). Get a cable to suit the TV connections.

With normal TV the sound and picture signals are delivered together via
the coaxial cable but the quality is far better if they are kept
separated once the signal is received - so for a genuine "TV" signal the
TV itself splits them up, on a DVD they are already "Split up" so to
speak and recombining them would cost you quality.

If you have all the bits why haven't you tried it?
You want hdmi for the video anyway if its a flat panel TV as it gives a much
better picture than S-video.

For the moment the TV is not yet delivered and the use of HDMI is new for
me.
Firt of all i want to be sure that it works before i buy a cable.
Meanwhile i got the confirmation from the forum (thanks all) that it will
work so i will buy one.
On the fact in the sound will transferred via the same cable is not
everybody on the same line...
As additional question:is there a limitation on the lenght of the cable
before the quality will become bad?

Both the video and the audio are sent digitally on hdmi.
This means that even cheap £3 cables work perfectly.
If you buy a cable it should be of sufficient quality to work over the
length you buy (its difficult to buy hdmi leads that aren't pre terminated).
Up to about 5m really cheap stuff should work.
If you want to go 25m then you need better cable.
Don't fall into the audiophiles trap of buying expensive tat as it just
doesn't give any benefits other than bragging rights.

I will need +/- 5 m and the shop i contacted told me that for the sound i do
need an additional cable.
By now i do know better.

Well, this should be the definitive answer to all your questions,
however nobody can guarantee that the manufacturers of hardware or
software have implemented this properly, the difference between theory
and practice.

There are probably many variations with cable so make sure you check
both ends, unless you can find one that specifies both the TV and PC on
the box.
