| Screens always scroll to mouse pointer Hi all, In all Vista applications, how do I stop the screen automatically scrolling towards the mouse pointer. This is really annoying, especially in Word 2007 when I'm typing and the screen jumps back (with the cursor) to where the mouse pointer is hovering. It also hapens in IE7, it's like I'm constantly fighting with the screen to keep it where it is when I'm reading a website! I can't see anything in Mouse Options in the Control Panel to stop this. Help!!! |

| RE: Screens always scroll to mouse pointer Yes, please help me too. I like Vista so far but NEVER had this problem with XP. ?I'm a newsletter editor for a non-profit and this is really getting in the way. | Re: Screens always scroll to mouse pointer Normally, the mouse auto scroll is activated with the middle button. if it is active all the time, then it is probably the driver. If you have a joystick type mouse, then there may be a settings box that will allow you to calibrate it for X,Y, and it will find center on it's own. If you are using a laptop, you may want to contact your manufacturer about the issue. -- Curt "Priscilla" <Priscilla@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0B1B0456-0A4C-4042-A914-43957DCDD423@microsoft.com...[color=blue] > Yes, Aser. | Re: Screens always scroll to mouse pointer I am using a laptop, but we have the same problem on every type of laptop we use (currently Fujitsu, Toshiba and Dell). The problem occurs whether the touch pad on laptop is active or not. All the external mice we use are Microsoft mice so drivers are current and Vista compatible. I have turned off every possible attribute in software but to no avail. Even in Word, when the cursor is not visible because you are typing, if you pause in typing the page will jump to the cursor position. It is beginning to make some of these applications (especially Explorer) virtually untenable! | Re: Screens always scroll to mouse pointer Just a shot in the dark but when I press my mouse wheel, an up/down arrow appears and the screen will scroll when the mouse is moved. I wondered if, when an external mouse was used on the laptop, whether the scroll wheel had been pressed too hard and activating the touchpad did not cancel this setting? | Re: Screens always scroll to mouse pointer No sorry. I get the scroll arrow as well when I press the wheel down too, that is fine. The problem is just scrolling using the wheel or the scroll bars. For example now, if I use the wheel to scroll down, when I stop scrolling the screen bounces back - as if it is trying to go back to the cursor point on the screen. Very annoying and extremely frustrating! | Re: Screens always scroll to mouse pointer It's a setting in the mouse button configuration. Normally on a standard mouse it is the middle button that does that. You either need a driver for it, or you need to reconfigure your touch pad. It might not be letting go of settings from mouse to touchpad, or visa versa. Try resetting defaults and see if that helps. -- Curt "Smirnoff" <someone@nospam.invalid> wrote in message news:BCD425B3-0C9B-430B-9B23-5EAE8C3A823B@microsoft.com...[color=blue] > Just a shot in the dark but when I press my mouse wheel, an up/down arrow > appears and the screen will scroll when the mouse is moved. > > I wondered if, when an external mouse was used on the laptop, whether the > scroll wheel had been pressed too hard and activating the touchpad did not > cancel this setting? > > > "Severan" <Severan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:94EFC9FC-3A87-48FF-B84A-14EA8BD1125C@microsoft.com...[color=green] >> I am using a laptop, but we have the same problem on every type of laptop >> we >> use (currently Fujitsu, Toshiba and Dell). I only ever use the Laptop Pad but since I first noticed the problem (many months ago) i have tride to turn the dam facility off but cant find how to do it.....I have of late tride a mouse but it still appears and sends my work scidaling up or down for now aparant reason.. I have also played with the scroll key but cant seem to see that it makes any differsence... Its so infuriating and intemittent that when you want it to appear so you can try to kill it, it wont, it will do its damdest, almost as if it knows you looking for it and just pretends to not be there...spooky ! Windows and MS Ofice are upto date with all that can be down loaded from the net..... I also have the latest startup/setup files loaed by HP engineers. So now its up to you wiz kids out there....HELP ! its driving us all crazy....eeeerh Idea!... could it be that we who have the problem are using an issue of some software that no one else is ? or am I wrong to think that only a few of us have this problem?....
