Adobe Reader telling me all program files are corrupt .. desktop and sidebar icons are all adobe

Hi All. Having problems again with windows vista home premium. My
desktop icons have disappeared and adobe reader keeps on popping up
whenever the system is restarted. The sidebar icons are all adobe
reader icons with the title of the program listed as what they are. I
cannot even do a system restore.........Adobe keeps on showing all the
programs for instance nstrui.exe as file as damaged along with all the
other program files......... I know that there is nothing wrong with
them. Appreciate all the help......... Vid

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

If that does not work, try repairing your system. Boot from your Windows
Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select
'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup
Repair option and follow instructions.

I cannot even open the cmd prompt because adobe reader keeps telling
me that files are damaged or corrupt because for example it was sent
in an email that wasnt properly encoded

Re: Adobe Reader telling me all program files are corrupt .. desktop and sidebar icon

I am also having problems with Reader 8.1 and Vista home premium on a new laptop. It won't open some pdfs and states that 'it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (eg it was sent as an email attachement and wasn't correctly decoded)'. I wasn't given Vista on dvd with the laptop so can't reinstall. Is there something I can do to sort it out please? This is also happening on PC with Reader 7.0 and Vista. Thanks.
