| Windows explorer (taskbar) freezes and start menu disappears About every 10 minutes or more, the taskbar freezes and I can't do anything. I have to constantly open the task manager, end the exlporer process, and reopen explorer. I don't know how at all I'd be able to fix this. Another problem I've been having is with my start menu. Whenever I open it, the shortcut files aren't there. The program folder and all of the things on the right (including documents, computer, network, etc.) is still there. I don't know how I'd fix this either. If anyone has a solution to anyone of these 2 or both of these problems, please help me out and reply with an answer. Thanks, Jer |

| Re: Windows explorer (taskbar) freezes and start menu disappears Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator". Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key. This should repair/replace any corrupt system files. If that does not work, try repairing your system. Boot from your Windows Vista DVD, select the System Repair Option > on the setup screen, select 'Repair Computer > Select your installation of Windows > select Startup Repair option and follow instructions. Also, check your Event Viewer for any error logs that might give us a clue as to what might be failing. -- Andre Blog: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com My Vista Quickstart Guide: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E8E5CC039D51E3DB!9709.entry "xpriestsxsyrinxx" <xpriestsxsyrinxx@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6C1CE7E6-9E31-42AB-B94B-FAF524AADD34@microsoft.com... > About every 10 minutes or more, the taskbar freezes and I can't do > anything. > I have to constantly open the task manager, end the exlporer process, and > reopen explorer. | Re: Windows explorer (taskbar) freezes and start menu disappears Hi Jer, Do you have the google desktop installed? It's been known to cause this issue. Otherwise, click start and type msconfig, then hit <enter>. On the general tab, place the system in diagnostic mode, click apply/ok and reboot as directed. See if the problem with the taskbar goes away. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "xpriestsxsyrinxx" <xpriestsxsyrinxx@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6C1CE7E6-9E31-42AB-B94B-FAF524AADD34@microsoft.com... > About every 10 minutes or more, the taskbar freezes and I can't do > anything. > I have to constantly open the task manager, end the exlporer process, and > reopen explorer. | Re: Windows explorer (taskbar) freezes and start menu disappears Thanks for the advice, but after the scan finished, it found a corrupt log, but couldn't fix it. As for repairing it with the Vista DVD, I'm not sure how to do that.
