| Vista & WPD FileSystem Volume Drive 2nd request I had to send this again. It has been out there since the 6th and no one has helped me yet. I am desperate. Isn't there a kind person who can help me out? I still do not know if the Maxtor problem is connected to the WPD problem. But I have to know before I send the drive back to Seagate. I have to be able to clean off my data and was hoping that if I fixed the WPD problem, maybe I would be able to access this drive just to format it. Vista Home Premium & Maxtor External One Touch III Turbo & WPD FileSystem Volume Drive In Devices, under Portable Devices it shows an exclamation point next to Microsoft WPD FileSystem Volume Driver. I selected Update Driver and it said that the drive was updated successfully. When I try to access my Maxtor External Drive, I get a code 10 error. The drive does not appear any where on my computer. I used my Maxtor all the time, now all of a sudden it disappears from my computer and at the same time I get a error code if I run its software. Then I found out that I was also getting an error code 10 because of this WPD Filesystem volume driver that says it updated, but really hasn't. It makes me think that the 2 problems are connected and that maybe if I can get the WPD driver to work, maybe my Maxtor will work also. I shut down the computer & reconnected the Maxtor (Firewire) and then put my computer back on hoping it will recognize the drive, but it doesn't. Also, any time I put my computer on, I get an error message that Microsoft windows has to load the WPD FileSystem Volume Driver. I select okay. It goes through the process of searching and installing, but then generates an error code 10. I go back to the Devices and select property on the WPD which still has an exclamation point and sure enough it says Device cannot start Code 10 error. Any ideas how to get this file to update. Nothing seems to work. Every time I put my computer on it does the same thing, but nothing gets installed. Desperate! I have to be able to get on to this Maxtor Drive so that I can format it. I seems to have bad sectors and I have to return it to Seagate for a replacement. I really do not want to send it back with all my backup files on it. -- eclecticats@verizon.net |

| RE: Vista & WPD FileSystem Volume Drive 2nd request I have this same problem with Vista Business on my brand new Sony VAIO laptop... it started happening after I installed the Windows Mobile Device Center Update 6.1 from Microsoft. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling and even deleting the INF files to get this to stop and it still persists. I just keep sending the error reports to Microsoft hoping that they come out with a fix... tons of people are having this problem and it effects everything from Windows-based mobile phones to SD cards, to practically anything with a flash-memory and a USB connection. | RE: Vista & WPD FileSystem Volume Drive 2nd request This is getting ridiculous. I cannot believe the number of folks with thumb drives, Maxtor drives and VISTA that are having this same trouble. I for one wish I had never heard of VISTA. Too late Caveat Emptor or something like that. But as for MS they are not listening... Surprise..... All we - those over the age of 50 and are not the tech nerds our sons are... and They cannot figure out what has gone wrong!!.... WE are in need of some genuine assistance. At least under XP, in the past I got the courtesy of a reply..... This length of time and no reply is Very Poor. Now I join the cue waiting for the pleasure of not only a reply but a "fix" for the problem. What is a Microsoft WPD filesystem volume driver and how do I get my thumb drives, external drives and SD photo chip plug in "thing" to wrk again! Please someone in MS hear the pleas which are out on so many blogs - my son showed me just how wide spread this situation is.... Microsoft - You have a BIG problem!!
