Recent Items drop-down menu problems

My Recent Items button on the Start Menu has an odd problem. Instead of
displaying the 15 most recent items, it displays the first 15 items from the
Recent folder in alphabetical order. Needless to say, after a few days of
use, the Recent Items button becomes useless because it's clogged with items
that are alphabetically prior to more recently viewed items. I don't know
when this problem started, since I only started trying to use the Recent
Items button about a week ago.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Re: Recent Items drop-down menu problems

I found this in some other newsgroup. It worked for me and also solved
the problem that you described.

Symptom

When you open the Windows Vista Start menu and right-click Recent
Items, the option Clear Recent Items List may be missing. Also, the
Recent folder may be displayed with a generic folder icon in Windows
Explorer.
Resolution

This happens if the desktop.ini file in the Recent folder is deleted.
Thanks & Credits to dean-dean for posting this solution in the Microsoft
Newsgroup.

* Click Start, type "%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows" and press {ENTER}
* Right-click the folder named Recent, and choose Delete. Click Yes
when prompted.
* Now, type the command "shell:recent" in Start - Search box, and press
{ENTER}.

Logoff and login back. You should now see the context menu entry Clear
Recent Items List when you right-click on the Recent Items folder in the
Start menu..

Re: Recent Items drop-down menu problems

I have the exact same problem with Vista Ultimate. I cannot find the
"Recent" folder, but I find the "Recent items" folder. However, when I
right click on it it does not give me the choice to delete it. What
should I do now? Thank you.

What do I do after I "download" line 20? I just see several lines of
text. Is it supposed to do something? Thanks.

Re: Recent Items drop-down menu problems

Did you download a file to your desktop or download folder?? Called
DeleteRecentList.js, just double click on the file like any other file.
