The Trojan sits behind an online video and when you try to play it you get a message from Quicktime telling you to get a new codec, and if you follow the link you'll be sent to a site that hosts the malicious software. Click "ok" and enter your systems adminstrator's password and it will be installed on your computer with full system access after which you are, to use the jargon, "pwned", or scuppered. |

It doesn't matter how secure you make the OS its still got a stupid user at the controls. This is why Alias' (and lots of other users) claims about linux being secure or even more secure are wrong. I bet all the Mac users were smug behind their cloak of invulnerability, I bet some stupid ones still are. This false belief that they are secure just leaves the mugs wide open to attack. |

It doesn't matter to the end user if they are infected. All it does is give some users gloating rights and an excuse to say its not their favorite OSes fault. |

Anyway it is going to happen to linux if there are ever enough to bother with. Someone thinks its worth doing it with Macs, probably because they run freebsd (more secure than Linux BTW) and users aren't going to be able to find the infection easily. There are not going to be any of those "pesky" AV updates to find it for Mac users so they will have to wait and see if Apple fix it. Maybe Apple will supply a working firewall as a fix too or is a fake firewall a new feature of leopard? |

That said, safe hex is the best defense, no matter what OS you use. Ubuntu comes with a software firewall and Clam AV. I combine that with a hard firewall in my router. That doesn't mean that if something should pop up wanting to be installed, that I will be stupid enough to allow it, be it Windows or Ubuntu. And, that said, Ubuntu or Mac is much less prone to viruses and malware than Windows Vista. IMHO, Windows Vista is a virus itself as it's always calling home surreptitiously. -- Alias To email me, remove shoes |

The user has to install it, run it and it creates havoc on the computer. In addition, Vista is a trojan because it calls home surreptitiously. So, Susu or this African Linux must be Trojans too when they phone home, and they do phone home or they don't phone home automatically. But nevertheless they phone home. Vista phones home to check if you're running a "genuine" copy of Vista. If you so choose, you can stop Ubuntu from phoning home or not install the updates. With Vista, if the flawed "anti piracy" programs deem you not "genuine", your computer is reduced to "low functionality" and you can't use it until you get permission from MS to do so. I don't expect someone of your low intelligence to understand this and I only post for those who do. What you think or do is immaterial to me because all you are is a troll who helps no one. -- Alias To email me, remove shoes |
