FLV codec for Windows Mediaplayer

I want to be able to play FLV videos on Windows Mediaplayer 11. Where can I
download the codec and how do I install it so it functions with Windows
Mediaplayer 11?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: FLV codec for Windows Mediaplayer

FLV is a flash video file which will not play in media player.

Here is a link that might be of some use to you.

Re: FLV codec for Windows Mediaplayer

I don't know of any way to play it in Windows media player, but you might
want to look at GOM player. It is freeware and plays most media types
(including FLV). It uses internal codecs, so there is no need to download
individual codecs and have them mess with and corrupt your computer. GOm is
very small and uses a very small footprint (Unlike WMP). I use it as the
default media player for all my media (except mp3)

Re: FLV codec for Windows Mediaplayer

I second that...

Gomplayer is what media player should have been...

the best player I have ever found, and I have tried almost everything that
exists!

media player 11 is a total disgrace! It was developed for vista.. what do
you expect other than crap?

Re: FLV codec for Windows Mediaplayer

you can install this flv splitter that will enable media player to play flv
http://www.gomplayer.com/down/files/FLVSPLITTER.EXE

but I suggest you throw media player 11 in the trash and use
www.gomplayer.com as your default player..

Absolutely! I always recommend GOM Player. Also XnView and VLC Player.

It is comical that giant Microsoft can't find the "talent" somewhere
in it's 79,000 employees to write a decent media player while tiny
little companies give away much better players. In fact it is shameful
that Microsoft is outperformed in this area.

Re: FLV codec for Windows Mediaplayer

www.gomplayer.com, hit the download link.

It's just bad form to post a direct link to an executable , regardless of
the OS that opens the post.

Re: FLV codec for Windows Mediaplayer

Although this is an old thread, the following information may be a
solution for someone who prefers to use Windows Media Player (WMP).

Use a search engine to download a small program called YouTube
Downloader. With this free download, you will be able to download and
convert any video from YouTube (according to the information described
in the player). When you use this program to convert any previously
downloaded file into WMV file format, you will be able to play the file
on Windows Media Player. Although I am not an expert in these matters, I
have found this a very simple solution for playing .flv files on WMP 11
- presumably this method will work on earlier versions.
