| remove old partition For one reason or another, I have a partition that no longer has any data on it that I want to merge back into my main "C:" drive. Do I just delete the volume with disk manager? |

You have to use third party partitioning software, such as Partition Magic. Do a search for "partition" in this newsgroup, the topic has been discussed several times here. Charlie42 |

| Re: remove old partition If the volume in question is "after" drive C: (your system partition) you can just delete the volume. You can then expand the system volume to the right. If the partition in question is before the system partition (to the left) the tools that come with Vista will not handle the problem. Also, Vista (as was Windows XP before it) is drive and partition sensitive. If you have a Drive C: for data, and your system is installed on drive D:, you can not just delete drive C: and expand the system partition to take up that space - even with 3rd party tools. The operating system will no longer boot and you will have an exercise in frustration in getting it to do so. Be ready to reinstall the operating system as it may be necessary to do so. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) "tjb" <tjb@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:64F9C7CE-3755-4F6C-806B-2077A00F1690@microsoft.com... > For one reason or another, I have a partition that no longer has any data > on > it that I want to merge back into my main "C:" drive. | Re: remove old partition No. The best partition handling program I have found to date is Acronis Disk Director Suite (ver 10.0 build 2160). Even with that, if you want to work with the system partition you do it by booting from the CD you create "after" you have installed the program on your computer. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User (For email, remove the obvious from my address) "gln" <liebach@noreply.dk> wrote in message news:eYsUJCWGIHA.4584@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Is Partition Magic 8 comtabile with Windows Vista??? > > > "Charlie42" <Charlie42@spam.me.not> skrev i meddelelsen > news:FF04FC25583A40CD99E2D6DB48B778AD@ACER5DF9DF163F... >> tjb <tjb@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >> >>> For one reason or another, I have a partition that no longer has any >>> data on it that I want to merge back into my main "C:" drive. Using Partition Commander from Vcom or Disk Director from Acronis will avoid having to completely rebuild your HD after PM trashes it. -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://improve-usenet.org |
