xp to vista

Does the Windows Easy Transfer software move programs AND applications from
the xp pc to the vista pc ? Are there additional steps when the Windows Easy
Transfer is complete or is it a one step process and it's done ? Thanks in
advance

I doubt that anything is just going to move one program/application from one
platform to another platform. The program/application usually has to be
installed on the O/S platform it's intended to run on, because registry
entries need to established with the O/S.

It will move your files and settings but you'll still have to install the
programs on the new computer. Once a program is installed it should
(hopefully) behave as it did on your old computer, depending on how and
where its settings are stored.

The only problem I had with the Easy Transfer wizard was that it was a
little bit TOO 'easy', and didn't offer much flexibility in what I did and
didn't want transferred. The result was I ended up with a lot of stuff I
didn't really want on the new machine. Still, better this than having it
miss something.

Only really if you count sorting out anything that didn't quite work out to
your liking. As above, you might end up having to delete stuff you don't
need. Also, it works best with well-written software that follows all the
rules. Over the years programmers found ways to circumvent XP's 'Made for
Windows XP' rules and came up with non-standard installation procedures, so
be prepared for the transfer to not necessarily be 100% fool-proof. You'll
also have to make sure that all your software works with Vista.

I have to say though, when I tried it, it did work better than I expected it
to.

Re: xp to vista

That looks interesting, wasn't aware it existed, any reports on how well it
works?
