The *(#$^*%!!! Search Indexer

The infernal Windows Search Index often cranks the hard drive for long
periods
of time. This slows down the computer. Since we do not use search much it is
not a very useful feature to us.

Does anyone know how to turn off the search indexer in Vista? I have turned
off
the fast indexing option on the disk. I have turned it off in Control Panel
by deselecting
those things to search. I have turned it off in "Services" by setting it to
manual and
rebooting. I have turned off searching in Outlook 2007.

Yet after all of that it keeps showing up in task manager and in services it
starts
even when set to maual and will restart if turned off.

Just what in the sam hill do I need to do to turn it off and keep it turned
off.

Re: The *(#$^*%!!! Search Indexer

It will eventually stop indexing, and your computer will not be that slow.

But I do agree with you, this is annoying... I don't know of any methods how
to turn it off, however.

Re: The *(#$^*%!!! Search Indexer

Thanks. It generally only stops indexing after some hours so it is more
than a little annoying when it indexes.

Re: The *(#$^*%!!! Search Indexer

You can also try turning off the Indexing Service, but I recommend leaving
it on since its handy feature that makes finding files a cinch in Vista.

Start - Administrative Tools - Services - find Windows Search; right click
it and select properties; under Startup Type change it to Disabled
