Ipaq 2215 will not sync with Vista Mobile device center

I cannot sync my Ipaq 2215 with WMDC. I have done a hard reset on the Ipaq
as well as installing WMDC again. No Luck! The Ipaq is running Windows
Mobile 2003 and should be compatible. Is this what I can expect from
Microsoft? They offer no support since the OS was installed by Dell. HP
ditto since the Ipaq is off warranty and they want to be paid for support
even if they don't solve the problem.

Hats off to Dell support who spent an hour with me but they could not solve
it either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Ipaq 2215 will not sync with Vista Mobile device center

The operating system on your device needs to be running Windows Mobile 2003
or later to work with Windows Mobilty Center which is the syncing technology
for mobile devices in Windows Vista. Basically, its the successor to
ActiveSync which is used on Windows XP.

Hello Ken,

Go to Start, RUN line and type in services.msc In this console you have all
services running. Scroll down to windows....... and check the both.

Re: Ipaq 2215 will not sync with Vista Mobile device center

Connecting the iPAQ will launch Sync Center, but there will be nothing to
synchronise until you have launched and configured WMDC.

My 2210, which is virtually identical to your 2215, synchronises perfectly
well.

Re: Ipaq 2215 will not sync with Vista Mobile device center

Thanks for the resonse.

I have configured WMDC. It starts to sync and then just stops and gives an
error icon. checking the error messages gives no indication of what the
error is.

Re: Ipaq 2215 will not sync with Vista Mobile device center

Without a specific indication of the error it's almost impossible to say
what to do.

Possibly it's a USB problem and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941600 would
help if it has not already been applied. I assume Dell walked you through
possible BIOS and driver updates, and USB is properly configured in your
BIOS.

Are you using the latest version 6.1 of WMDC from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx ?

I have seen a similar problem with a Nokia mobile phone when data was
corrupted and the software couldn't cope. If you are using Outlook try
running the Inbox Repair tool

To all of you who so kindly replied:

Problem solved by Microsoft tech. It was an Outlook problem and my Office
2007 free support was still in effect. All is up and running well now.
