How DARE MS shut down my PC automatically to install updates!!

This sort of behavior on MS's part is reprehensible and outrageous. How
bizarre that MS would elect to shut down users PC's using a timer
function, rather than allow users to choose when to shut down to finish
installation of updates. Brickbats to Gates & Company. No wonder I
cant stand Microsux.

I guess its time that i disable updates. That way I'll not have my
computing interrupted on Microsux's schedule. Scum sucking monopolistic
jerkass company. Any MS apologists here can save their breath--if you
try to excuse the inexcusable, all you do is drop your credibility to zero.

Actually, if you wait, a little yellow shield will appear so you can
watch the updates install and then, if needed, reboot your computer
without shutting down. That said, installing the updates outside the
Windows GUI is probably a good idea.

Exactly! I, myself, was on the way to a personal high score at Solitare when
it came time for my nap. Upon return from repose, my score was gone!

I had to go have a lie-down.

You dear sir should have set the solitaire setting that 'saves on close'.
Then, you could still be working on your score.

The issue is not so simple as just one of proper configuration of
windows update. Please read the following:

And just what is "not so simple" as NOT choosing automatic downloading and
installation of updates? There are TWO other options, no?

Re: How DARE MS shut down my PC automatically to install updates!!

you missed the point i made in a subsequent post on this thread. to
wit: i hadn't heretofore HAD ANY ISSUE WITH UDPDATE. Today was the
first day it screwed me over. can u get that through your MS-apologist
skull????
Sheesh!!

No wonder very few issues get resolved on this forum--Vista is too lame
to fix, and posters here posing as useful contributors don't READ and
COMPREHEND complaints. I still have a number of unresolved issues that
no one can come up with a fix for, so refer back to the previous sentence...

A timer? I never heard of timer to shut down windows.
It usually gives you a choice whether or not to reboot. If Vista does
have that function. There is possible a way to disable it and still
use Windows update.

Did you read the article at all? Does ms recommend that automatic
updates be configured to work without user intervention, and do they
also suggest that users run as standard user? Maybe you are more
informed, but I would hazard a guess that most users are not and will
configure (if they do any configuration at all) per recommendations made
by ms. It is a valid complaint, regardless of your attempt to push off
culpability to the user.

ah, u havent fallen victim to this yet, eh?? neither had I, until
today. they use a ****ed timer!!! i saw an icon on my taskbar, ignored
it for a little bit..then clicked on it and the timer was at 2 seconds,
so i couldnt stop it in time. next thing i know windows is shutting
down. dirty bastards, IMO. Just wait until it happensto you! ive use
vista for about 5 months i guess--today was the first timer forced
shutdown.

Re: How DARE MS shut down my PC automatically to install updates!!

There's no timer that auto shuts down after an update. A windows pops up
and informs you that a reboot is necessary, but you can wait and do it later
at your convenience
This idiot is merely spouting FUD.
