| Re: Problem with Windows Update Try this: The BITS Repair Tool will help you fix a problem caused by the corruption of BITS state files. The problem stops the host process for Windows Services, which prevents you from using BITS to transfer files. Use this tool to resolve the corruption and re-enable BITS transfers. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. x86: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2829e460-4045-435b-b165-2c1496cd94a4&DisplayLang=en x64: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.aspx?na=22&p=3&SrcDisplayLang=en&SrcCategoryId=&SrcFamilyId=&u=/downloads/details.aspx%3fFamilyID%3dc9e36415-e97b-46a6-ab7e-4f89fff4d8af%26DisplayLang%3den -- Andre Blog: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com My Vista Quickstart Guide: http://adacosta.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!E8E5CC039D51E3DB!9709.entry "ross m. greenberg" <greenber@bellsouth.net> wrote in message news:0jcPi.637$va.41@bignews4.bellsouth.net... | Re: Problem with Windows Update Excuse me for putting my two cents in but that was one of the BIGGEST mistakes you might have made. Are you attempting to further corrupt your computer? Do you want a really nice looking boat anchor? Because those little "tricks" were, at times, necessary before windows '98 but now they will make things MUCH worse. Why don't you do a logical thing like system restore or reinstall your system files? Just turn the computer on ande let it boot up, open a DOS prompt and type SFC /scannow and then let the operating system repair ITSELF "ross m. greenberg" <greenber@bellsouth.net> wrote in message news:rnnPi.120$5c.10@bignews1.bellsouth.net... No Go. Same error number Even tried with a reboot in the middle. There was a Windows Update Service -- that's the one you meant, right? There was no Automatic Updates service |

SFC tells me that it found some corruption in some system files, it was unable to recover all of them. It further says that it has cut a log, but the log is not able to be accessed. In essence, SFC did nothing to alleviate my problems. Ross |

| Re: Problem with Windows Update It gets even worse! For some reason I had lost all my network connections: the network/workgroup at this computer is on is called "RMGNET" I can not get Network Discovery to stay on; but to other computers on the network has basically disappeared. When I open up Network, it tells me that I am not connected to a network. Help! Ross |
