| Windows Startup When loading the desktop in vista home premium it'll open my documents folder and nothing else. Forcing me to /run explorer from task manager. I've used shellexview to disable/uninstall some of the conflicting programs (2 which I didn't were nvidia drivers which have been working for a while before this started). After /run explorer everything works seemingly well. Considering I've only recently received the computer it irks me to already have some issues and any help into clearing it up will be greatly appreciated. |

| Re: Windows Startup Hi, Seen this happen several times lately, and I'm still trying to ascertain the cause. Any clues you can give will help. In the meantime, here is the fix: From Task Manager, click 'new task' on the applications tab. Type regedit and click ok. Agree to the UAC prompt, then expand the branches to reach this one: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Click on the Winlogon key, then on the right find the "shell" string. Double click it, change the value data to read "explorer.exe" (without the quotes) and click ok. Then close the registry editor and restart the system by entering another new task as 'shutdown /r'. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Seishin" <Seishin@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:47CDAB24-C5C9-47E2-8D0E-A221246C8819@microsoft.com... > When loading the desktop in vista home premium it'll open my documents > folder > and nothing else. | Re: Windows Startup I found this solution a little while ago but I'm very hesitant before having to resort to doing anything in the registry. After reading your reply I gave it a shot and it worked. About the only thing that changed between yesterday and today was the introduction of word 2007 and vista symantic antivrus. In both cases I had previous versions which needed to be uninstalled. I origianlly had an symantic antivirus that wasn't suited for vista and although it worked it didn't have auto protect on. Considering that the line of text following explorer.exe in the reg was c:\windows\config\lsass.exe and lsass.exe I hear having to do with windows security the addition of the antivirus may have changed the registry for whatever reason. Regardless I'm happy this got resolved and thank you. "Rick Rogers" wrote: > Hi, > > Seen this happen several times lately, and I'm still trying to ascertain the > cause. | Re: Windows Startup Hi Seishin-- I'm glad Rick's fix worked for you. One thing about the registry--it has one of the fastest built in backups in Windows. Before you make a suggested change, simply back it up: File>Export>Radio button on lower left of dialogue box entire registry>save to deektop and tuck into convenient location. That way you're covered. You can also manually set a restore point for double security, but the registry backup is your insurance policy when editing the registry. Good luck, CH "Seishin" <Seishin@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E5351AB9-515E-4ABD-9CB6-CA575856CAB2@microsoft.com... >I found this solution a little while ago but I'm very hesitant before >having > to resort to doing anything in the registry.
