Dave is correct! Just to add a link to official confirmation:

Thanks for that.
PC World said that my copy of Office 2003 was not compatible with Vista.
They tried to sell me Office 2007.
I'm glad I didn't fall for their con.

Microsoft Office 2003 Has Some Major Compatibility Problems Windows
Vista RTM (Try Saving An Excel 2003 File With Custom Macro's In It And
You'll See Exactly What I Mean), Just FYI.

Geez, what a rip-off! You were wise to check.

Office 2007 is supposed to be the version that works best on Vista, but I
dunno ... I've had Office 2003 running on one Vista machine here for many
months, specifically to check for compatibility issues. I've used Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, outlook, run macros etc etc... no problems at all. Office
2007 is also a considerable re-learning effort. I have Office 2007 on my
laptop; it's okay, I'm starting to like it; but it certainly isn't a
necessary upgrade for the ordinary user.

There are a few Vista compatibility issues which are fixed in Office 2003
SP3, but they are pretty minor:

P.S. The Problem Went Away As Soon As They Removed 64 Bit Windows Vista
RTM And Returned To 64 Bit Windows XP SP2 RTM, Just FYI.

Hell, I can crash Excel in any OS with a poorly written macro! ;-)

While I agree with everyone else on this, does your version of Office 2003
happen to be an OEM version you had on another computer? If yes, that might
have been the reason for their comment. In that case, it's not that Office
2003 wouldn't be compatible but you might not have been able to get it
installed and if you had been able to do so, you probably couldn't have
gotten it activated.

I'd agree with that statement...but only as you've worded it...in so much as
Office 2007 runs like a donkey on XP - and has continual crash/auto recover
problems. I don't necessarily agree that Office 2007 is better than Office
2003 on Vista!

Re: MS Office 2003 has problems in Vista

NO, dear Dave, MS Office 2003 does not work fine with Vista.
It has all kinds of problems and SP3 didn't make any difference.
It stops and gives you debug errors all the time.
For example, try to get to work the Gallery of Office Assistants
in Options. You will get a message saying:
There is not enough memory available to complete this operation.
In spite that I have a new computer with 2 GB of RAM and an almost
empy 320 GB Hard Drive.
Can you help on this?
Please let us know how to fix it.
Thanks.
