Hi All,

I have a pc running Win XP (just did the upgrade advisor and it's ready for
Vista). Also have a router and a pc powerful enough to handle Vista.

I develop at home using Visual Studio 2005 pro and SQL Server. They don't
play very nice when running on the same pc with Windows XP though.

I wonder if anyone knows if I set up Vista along with SQL Server on this
other pc and attach it to my home network ... if I can get to an that SQL
Server instance from the pc running Visual Studio. Is this possible or am I
stuck dealing with the trouble that arises when both SQL Server and Visual
Studio are running on the same box using Win XP. I've ran the two on the same
pc before - but that was at work using Windows Server 2003.

I don't see why not. There must be something else going on. I never had a
problem.

I am running VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005 on the same Vista Ultimate machine
with no problems.

The only problems you might have is if you start VS up without using Run As
Administrator, because you won't have permissions to open a project Web Site
on IIS as an example. You'll also have to apply the VS 2005 SP1 for Vista
as well. And IIS7 is not IIS6, and IIS7 has a different look and feel.

Have you heard of TOAD for SQL Sever 2005? It's like SQL 2005 Management but
it's better. As a matter of fact, TOAD is fabulous, and it is free. I am
using TOAD at the job, and you can use Google to look it up and download it.
