| Re: weird problem OK try this,,,, the Sound in Control Panel is mmsys.cpl located in C:\Windows\System32 Rename that one to mmsysZ.cpl Search for another copy and copy and paste it into the System32 folder THEN click on it and see if it runs OK... if so great... if not delete it and rename the other one back by removing the Z. Let me know if it works, hangs as the other one or whatever. | Re: weird problem To make it simple login in as Admin below and then 1st try to run the cpl file (double click on it) if it locks up then do the renaming as before. http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9015738&pageNumber=2 Turning on the Administrator account is straightforward. First, open an elevated command prompt by typing cmd into the Search box on the Start menu, right-clicking the command prompt icon that appears at the top of the Start menu, then selecting Run as administrator . Then enter this command and press Enter: Net user administrator /active:yes From now on, the Administrator account will appear as an option on the Welcome screen, along with any user accounts you may have set up. Use it like any other account. Be aware that it won't have a password yet, so it's a good idea to set a password for it. If you want to disable the account and hide it, enter this command at an elevated command prompt and press Enter: Net user administrator /active:no "james" <james@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:11058892-98B3-4D57-AA39-65F3ADB29B15@microsoft.com... > ok heres something weird, when I went to rename it, I had to click the ok > for > permission but then it doesn't rename it, its keeps saying access denied > and > that I need permission. > > "Spirit" wrote: > >> OK try this,,,, the Sound in Control Panel is mmsys.cpl located in >> C:\Windows\System32 >> >> Rename that one to mmsysZ.cpl >> >> Search for another copy and copy and paste it into the System32 folder >> THEN click on it and see if it runs OK... if so great... if not delete it >> and >> rename the other one back by removing the Z. | Re: weird problem well i thank you for your trouble, didn't mean to take up all your time. I don't wanna try a reinstall because it was a pain in the ass to get windows activated so I'll just go and buy a new mic one day. Thanks again "Spirit" wrote: > Do you have Explorer set to show all hidden files? and system files? > > Did you close other programs in task manager and stop your anti-virus > and try? > > I am about out of ideas except a re-install..... do you have a Vista CD? > > > "james" <james@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:FC2BA128-7D99-47AF-86F8-430075B13E25@microsoft.com... > >I did all that and when I searched, i didn't find another copy > > > > "Spirit" wrote: > > > >> You need to right click on file, Properties and give yourself access > >> privileges to the file. > >> > >> "james" <james@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > >> news:167572F8-268F-44BD-917E-0D8DEA107D3B@microsoft.com... > >> > still not letting me rename, but i did get 2 different errors.when i > >> > went > >> > to > >> > open the mmsys thing, i got an error that said "audio enhancements for > >> > this > >> > driver may be causing problem, do you want to disable" so i did that > >> > and > >> > it > >> > still locked up.
