Logon Attempt Failed /w Remote Desktop Connection

Hi there,

For some reason I get a Logon Attempt Failed when I try and logon to a
remote computer on my network. I have checked and the port (3389) is open
and remote assistance is enabled (right click computer, remote tab) but still
I can not connect.

I have even made another account without a password to see if that would
make it easier but still I just get a "Logon Attempt Failed".

Help is appreciated like always.

RGDS

Curtis

Re: Logon Attempt Failed /w Remote Desktop Connection

Hi Curtis,

Remote Assistance or Remote Desktop is enabled? They are two different
things and have differing purposes. It is the latter that must be, and it is
only available in Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise (you won't even see it
on the remote tab in the Home Basic or Premium versions). The former is an
interactive session where a user is at the machine being accessed and grants
permission.

In addition, if you are acccessing a Vista machine from a non-Vista machine
(XP, 2000, etc.), then you must have the option enabled for the system to be
accessed from any version of Windows.

Rick,

Remote Assistance, and I was thinking it was the same thing as when I had XP
Pro and used Remote Desktop.

If I understand you correctly Vista Home Premium does not have that option or?

Re: Logon Attempt Failed /w Remote Desktop Connection

Hi Curtis,

Vista Home Premium can act as a client, but not as a host. In short, you
cannot access a Vista HP machine remotely with RD, but you can use it to
access a machine running a version of Vista that does support being a host.
If the machine you want to access remotely is running Vista HP, then you
would need to examine a third-party VPN solution.
